Peptic ulcer
An ulcus ventriculi (stomach ulcer) or ulcus duodeni (duodenal ulcer) is an area of damage to the lining.
Ulcers are frequently caused by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, painkillers or rheumatism medicines. In rare cases gastric cancer might be the cause of an ulcer.
A gastroscopy allows for a diagnosis. The stomach lining is examined and tissue samples are taken to exclude gastric cancer and prove the presence of Helicobacter pylori.
